Correos sending from Spain
The full name of the national postal service in Spain is Sociedad Estatal Correos y Telégrafos, S.A. It is simply referred to us as Correos, which is translated from Spanish as „post”. The history of this organization dates back to the Middle Ages. At first, letters were delivered by couriers, and after that by mail-coach. Nowadays, Spanish postal service provides services to transfer physical or electronic correspondence to the population and organizations. Correos is a part of the Correos Group, a company that is completely owned by the Spanish government. Other members of the Correas Group provide additional services. For instance, Nexea is engaged into big business, ChronoExpress offers express delivery options, and Correos Telecom creates telecommunications networks for the organizations.
The Spanish postal system also includes the postal service of Andorra, a small country located between Spain and France. This happened due to the fact that unlike Spain Andorra isn’t a member of Universal Postal Union (UPU).
Correos sending from Spain
To send parcels or small packages you should come to the post office and fill out the address form in Spanish and English. The parcel can be already packaged when you bring them because the inspection of it before the sending is not usually done, although the post office staff has the right to do it.
The classification of postal items in Spain is standardized.
The sending weighing less than 2 kilos are considered to be a small packet or letter, those weighing from 2 to 30 kilos are referred as packages. In case, of parcel, it’s required to attach filled declaration with a precise indication of the content and its cost.
The cost of sending of the small packets is fixed at 19.80 euros with the status of the “simple”, and 22.24 euros with the “registered”. The cost of the package itself is calculated in accordance to its size and weight.
Restrictions on the size of the sendig include minimum (9x14cm for all types of mail and packages) and maximum values:
- For small packets – not more than 90 cm in sum of the three measurements with the length of each side not exceeding 60 cm
- For packages – not more than 200 cm in sum of the three measurements with the length of each side not exceeding 105 cm
The content restriction includes only the list of the liquids and items that are considered to be hazardous with accordance with the rules of the International Air Transport Association. However, when gathering your parcel do not forget about the import regulations of the country where the parcel will be sent.
Spain is the member of EMS Cooperative, an international express service. Correas operator is the representative of this service ensuring the delivery of EMS-items throughout Spain.
To send the packed by the means of the express service you need to inform any of Spain’s post offices that you want to use EMS Postal Exprés. While filling out the address form you need to write the names of country and city in English, but the exact address should be written in Russian when sending to Russia. This will allow avoiding any mistakes in the delivery.
The size restrictions for EMS-sending are 200 cm in sum of the three measurements with the length of each side not exceeding 100 cm.
Mail and packages tracking
Just like in other countries that are members of Universal Postal Union, in Spain only registered mails and packages can be tracked. They have a unique track number composed in accordance with S10 UPU standard. According to this standard this number consists of 13 symbols, where the first corresponds to the type of sending and the second, contributes to the effectiveness of the first one. The next 9 numbers represent a numeric code and the last 2 letters stand for the abbreviated name of the sender’s country.
In particular, the first letter of track number for small packets is R, for parcels – C, for EMS sending – E. The second symbol is any letter of Latin alphabet, the numeric code can be random, and the final characters in case of sending from Spain will be standard – ES. The information about the country of the delivery is not included.
To track the postal sending with the track number you should enter this number into an appropriate field on the tracking webpage on the official Correos website or simply use the field named CÓDIGO DE ENVÍO, which is available on any page of the website.
When the postal item left Spain tracking should be checked on the website of postal operator of the recipient’s country. If the package was sent via EMS service then its status will be available on the Correos website as well, but only the main aspects of the delivery.
Methods and time of the delivery
While sending from Spain you will be offered to choose the type of the delivery – economy or priority. The priority delivery is more expensive and is considered to be faster. And really all over the Spain such sending moves very fast, however after crossing Russia border this type of the delivery doesn’t have any advantages, therefore, the recipient will get this type of sending not sooner than the one sent via economy delivery. Consequently, there is no point in overpaying in such situation.
The average delivery time in case of sending from Spain is between 10 days to 1,5 months since the day the parcel was sent.
